This is disgusting:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=401419&in_page_id=1770&ico=Homepage&icl=TabModule&icc=NEWS&ct=5

I recently had a discussion with someone else about how much he favored racial profiling and I just can't understand how any rational person can think it's ok to single out a specific group of people and routinely harass them. It just seems like legalized segregation. We'd have a line in the airports for Arabs and for non-Arabs which, of course, is illegal, at least in this country. I just want some white guy to try and blow up a plane so that everyone can shut up about how "all terrorists" look Arabic and try to find ways to fix these problems that are more effective.

3:14 pm - Moussaoui Gets Life
"God curse America. God bless and save Osama bin Laden -- you will never get him," he told a packed federal courtroom that included family members of people killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema responded: "You came here to be a martyr and die in a big bang of glory.

"But to paraphrase the poet T.S. Eliot, instead you will die with a whimper," she said, borrowing a line from "The Hollow Men."

The judge then followed the decision of the jury and ordered the al Qaeda terrorist to spend the rest of his natural life in prison.

I am so happy that Moussaoui didn't get the death penalty, there's no better punishment for a man like this than to be forced to live out the rest of his life in a jail cell. Personally, I don't believe in the death penalty, but in this case I feel it was extra important for Moussaoui not to be executed so that he would not turn into a martyr.

Enjoy your life in prison Moussaoui, you deserve it.

Whoa...I didn't know our football team actually had good players...

Kevin Boothe was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 6th round.

12:03 pm - Duke Lacrosse
As I understood it, the DNA evidence did not match at all, so why are there lacrosse players being charged with the crime?

If anyone can shed any light on this (my initial, very cursory story scan on cnn.com did not make this clear at all) please leave a comment.

12:36 pm - "If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit"
The DNA test results from the Duke Lacrosse team came out negative, as in not one player's DNA matched the supposed claims that they took advantage of and beat the exotic dancer who was accusing them of doing so.

Durham has been ridiculous and this story has attracted national attention all for a woman who cried wolf. I can't imagine what must be going on around there right now. Everyone was so sure that the Lacrosse players were guilty, I can't believe that the case turned out this way. I hope that the national attention doesn't evaporate after this and that the truth is finally found.

11:09 pm - Islam
Another Orson Scott Card essay:

http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/2006-03-26-1.html

This time it's about Islam and their insistance that Muslims who leave Islam be executed. It's all stuff I'm sure you guys are familiar with, but it's still important for everyone to see because the things OSC mentions are not Islam-exclusive, they apply to any religion in the world.

Enjoy

11:55 pm - National Champions!
How sweet was that basketball game?

The beauty of this year's tournament is that I have never enjoyed a game of basketball I've ever seen, but my growing love for the Gators (started when I started dating Ashley and continues to grow) had me decide to start to watch their games in this tournament. I managed to see the George Mason and UCLA games (there was a Cornell hockey game on during one of the Gator games, missed one, and fell asleep before the other came on) and I am hooked. I can't wait for football and basketball season to start so that I can see more Florida games.

Anyway, great game played by UF, I admit I was worried about UCLA pulling a Gonzaga and coming back for a lot of the game, but the Gators just held them back so well.

Makes me happy. It's the second basketball game I've ever seen and enjoyed (the George Mason game being the first)

Go Gators!

12:36 pm - Dave McKee
Our superstar goalie, David McKee will now become the first Texas native to play in the NHL. I thought I might get to see him play his senior year here at Cornell, but he's opted to go and play for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. I'm really happy that he gets to go to the pros, but I just wish he would have stuck around for another year.

Good luck in the pros Dave McKee.

11:46 pm - 2 More OTs and Victory!
After another ungodly long game of hockey, Matt Moulson scored the game-winning goal during the 2nd overtime of the second match of the ECAC playoffs (Round 2!).

Let's see...another goal was cancelled by the referee in the 1st OT...the referee himself was pegged right in the knee with a hockey puck shot by a Clarkson player...and we hit a guy today just like they hit us last night, only we got a 5-minute major in the 1st OT that carried over into the 2nd OT.

So far Cornell and Dartmouth have secured their slots for the semi-finals, but Colgate and Harvard have another game to play tomorrow night as they both won their respective games. I'll let you all know who Cornell's playing in the semi-finals once I know (man I hope Quinnipiac and St. Lawrence beat Colgate and Harvard, respectively, tomorrow night).

12:04 pm - 2 OTs
New ECACHL rule learned: in the playoffs, overtime periods are 20-minute, full periods. So I basically sat through 1.667 hockey games last night waiting for the Big Red to pull ahead of Clarkson 4-3. The real problems I have with this game is that the refs made terrible calls all throughout the game and that we lost our lead in the 3rd period. Let's look at the second first...

When you're up 3-1 going into the 3rd period, you've still got to go in and play a hard game of hockey, you can't just give up. This slacking cost us tons of energy going into tonight. Granted, Clarkson had to play just as long, but why tire ourselves out for no good reason?

Now the bad calls. Oh boy...the refs almost got themselves lynched last night. The first bad call came in the 3rd period when a Clarkson player slammed Dan Glover into the boards, just about knocking him out and eliminating him from the game (he was dragged off the ice into the locker room). Why wasn't this called? Against Harvard we had just about the same hit happen, only the Harvard player started bleeding and we got a 5-minute major. Ok, there was no blood this time, but why not even a 2-minute minor? The refs have got to open their eyes...The next bad call came in 1st OT when a goal was waved off because a Cornell player supposedly made contact with the goalie. I can accept this one because it happened on the other side of the ice and I couldn't get a clean look, but it was still irritating because it was 15 seconds into 1st OT and Cornell wouldn't get another decent shot until the next bad call and their actual 4th goal in the 2nd OT. The last poor call of the night came at literally the last second of the 1st OT. Our team captain, Matt Moulson, fired off a beautiful shot over the goalie's left shoulder that went right into the net as the buzzer for the period went off, so it was waved off as well. This, of course, is where the lynching almost happened. Almost immediately after the refs declined the goal, Lynah erupted with boos. Most of the fans hate the officials, so it's not uncommon to hear them boo a ref for a bad call, but I have never heard Cornell fans so upset about a bad call in my entire time here. People started throwing newspapers and bottles onto the ice (stupid!) and we started yelling "STOP THROWING STUFF ON THE ICE," because it's just stupid and mean. It was ugly though...After another 10 exhausting minutes on the ice, Raymond Sawada managed to get the 4th (but really the 6th) goal of the night for Cornell.

I can't even imagine how tired the Cornell players must have been because we were exhausted and we were just standing and yelling. I'm just glad they held it together and pulled a win.

10:21 am - ECACHL Playoffs
Round 2 of the ECACHL playoffs start tonight and I cannot wait until tonight's game. It seems we've played Clarkson in the playoffs for the past 3 years and we've seen mixed results against them, but we're set to do well this series. We have the home ice advantage and we had a 1st round bye, which puts our players in a nice, well-rested state. The paper was saying that the conditions of defenders Brian O'Byrne, Sasha Pokulok, and Doug Krantz were such that they might not be able to play tonight, but I think that's a bluff by our coach to keep Clarkson unsure about who is going to be on our defensive line.

It should be a good game tonight!

2:51 pm - !!!
First they put an unwrapped Starburst in my pack, now they sell me a textbook missing pages 171-194...

The copy of Signal Processing First that I bought from the campus store in January was missing the whole second half of a chapter and the pages I needed to do my problem set. This is kind of a huge error in printing for a $125 book, if you ask me. It then goes from page 195 to page 218 and then returns back to page 195.

Light at the end of the tunnel...

Called the campus store and they said that someone else had a similar problem and that all I had to do was take my book and receipt in tomorrow after 10:00AM. Phew.

3:17 pm - Starburst
Opened a bar of Starburst today to help me fight drowsiness in my Computer Organization class and there was an open Starburst right in the first slot. I've seen wrappers that were oddly torn or misshapen Starburst in these packs, but I've never seen one entirely devoid of a wrapper. Needless to say, I did not eat the Starburst (just seemed gross), but I was greatly saddened by the fact that it was the first Starburst in the pack, meaning that it was orange flavored (my favorite!).

I am right about orange being the first one in every pack, right? I'm pretty sure it's both the first and last every time, but if anyone has ever seen different, please correct me. I usually buy king size bars, so make sure that your test is king-sized as well.
